I was born and raised on Cape Cod and grew up knowing I’d be an artist. I took weekly private painting lessons all through school, was constantly drawing and had my first job as a designer for a T-shirt company at 15. I was accepted to RISD and MassArt but had my heart set on New York, so I attended PRATT Institute in Brooklyn. My BFA is in Communication Design which had an emphasis on concept, the idea more than the execution. I liked that. I began working more on the computer so I took painting and illustration electives to keep the brushes wet. The education at PRATT gave me an opportunity to try many mediums, but I always came back to paint. My senior year I came home for Christmas and painted my first mural at a house in Orleans for a nice couple that had seen a painting I did. They liked it and asked me to do their dining room next. Having that commission, I came home after graduating for what I thought would be the summer. I’m still here on Cape Cod and have painted over 90 murals, both on and off the Cape. |
